Ambassador New Ambassador of Switzerland in Colombia.

The new head of the diplomatic mission in the country, presented his credentials in October. These are some relevant information about his trajectory.

  • He was born in Basel, Switzerland in 1959.


  • He studied law and has a PhD.


  • He is member of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1989.


  • He has worked in Bern, Geneva, Abidjan, New York and Lissabon.


  • Has the title of ambassador since 2005.


  • We wish successes in this new phase of his career, which will be crucial to further strengthen relations between both countries.


    Goes into effect Schengen visa to enter Switzerland

    Colombians who wish to travel to Switzerland will have to process their visa following the steps and tips from the Consul of the Swiss Confederation in Colombia.

    Last month took place at the Swiss Embassy in Bogota a theoretical training and technical support for the introduction of new regulations on the forthcoming entry of Switzerland into the Schengen area.

    Switzerland will apply this agreement on December 12th and may establish new visas valid for all countries of the Schengen area.




    The changes for Colombians traveling to Switzerland are:

  • The formalities for visa application for tourism, business and visit to the Swiss Embassy were delayed at least 15 working days.


  • Applications for study, work or permanent stay in Switzerland, the documents will be sent to Canton for their competent authority. The minimum time to get the answer is 2 months.


  • The cost of the visa is calculated based on the tariff currently in force in the european countries: Colombian pesos equivalent to 60 euros.


  • The process is personal and not transferable.


  • People who are already in possession of a Schengen visa can travel to Switzerland from the date of implementation of the agreement.


  • The local jurisdiction to be able to ask the Schengen visa at the Embassy of Switzerland will apply according to the following step:

    1. Switzerland's main travel destination.


    2. Switzerland as a main reason for the trip.


    3. Length of stay longer in Switzerland .


    4. Switzerland as a first point of entry into the Schengen area.


    If one of the above conditions are not met, the applicant will have to apply for a visa at the embassy of the country.
